Kevin imported this as a rolling body that someone in USA had begun to turn into a gasser. Once The Toy Shed got their hands on it, they practically cut off every thing that had been done in the states. The entire front of the car was cut off at the fire wall, leaving a pretty straight, rust free body to build Kevin’s dream.
Being a unibody car, a custom chassis was built and integrated into the floor from the diff forward. Next up was a roll cage to tie it all together. An early front beam axle was fitted to give the car the right “stance”. The differential was been rebuilt and fitted with 31 spline axles bolted to widened rear wheels to suit the new tyre combination and tuck under the guards.
Once the blown 532 all alloy Keith Black big block Chev engine turned up, it was checked over by the team and slotted into place along with a new BTE TH400 and 4000 rpm stall converter. We then got to work on wiring the car and dyno tuning in house. Passing tech inspection, it was time to return the car to Kevin who hit the strip as soon as he could, running a 9.90 on a soft tune with twin Holleys on Avgas.
The car was returned to The Toy Shed to give the engine a once over and fit an old school Hilborn mechanical methanol injection set up. Still running on “low boost”, it has now run a pb of 9.23 @ 146 mph
We can see a parachute being required in the future for Kevin as he gets the car dialed in at the track! Kevin has been great to work with and we really enjoyed bringing his idea to life.
